Lathyrus japonicus, better known as Beach Pea, is a perennial plant native to Michigan & the UP along the shores of the Great Lakes. Dunes and lakeshores are its niche, in part shade to full sun. Stabilizes sand, controls erosion, and adds pollinator habitat and color to beach environments.
Beach Pea is a sprawling plant 1 to 2 feet tall with jewel-like purple flowers.
Seeds can float and remain viable for 5 years, even in salt water.
